New Here?

We hope you’ll join us as we follow Jesus together!

What to Expect on Sunday

Our Sunday service includes:

  • Musical worship consisting of both old hymns and new contemporary songs

  • Expository sermons taught from Scripture

  • Communion together, every week

We’ll usually start with announcements, prayer, and worship our Lord through song, all together as families. Then we dismiss children up through 2nd grade to their classrooms. For sermons, typically we walk through books of the Bible, but we will sometimes break for topical sermons. Then we conclude with communion together.

At Cornerstone Church, you’ll find friendly faces ready to welcome you, ample opportunities to get plugged in and serve, and warm, relational fellowship with other followers of Jesus.

Come join us on Sundays at 10am at Elmont Elementary School in Ashland, VA.

General FAQ

We understand that attending a new church can sometimes be an intimidating experience. To help put your heart and mind at ease, we've answered some of our most frequently asked questions related to gathering with Cornerstone Church.

When and where is the church service?

Our weekly Sunday service begins at 10am and usually ends around 11:15-11:30.

We meet in the cafeteria at Elmont Elementary School located at 12001 Cedar Lane, Ashland, VA 23005. The main entrance and cafeteria are located in the first building on the right; we have signs to guide you!

Where do I park?

You can access both of the school’s parking lots by turning onto Karen Drive from Cedar Lane. The primary parking lot is located on the left with a one-way entrance and exit, and there’s also a smaller accessible parking lot located on the right near the main entrance.

What should I wear?

Our Sunday gatherings are “come as you are”. Some people choose to wear jeans and a t-shirt, others dress up a bit more. If you join us for a service, please feel free to dress however you feel comfortable.

What classes do you offer for children?

Currently we have two childrens’ classes that meet during part of the Sunday morning service – one for babies through Pre-K, and the other for Kindergarten through 2nd grade.

When you walk in the door, you’ll see signs directing you to the Kids Check-In area. There is a self check-in station for those who have checked in before, and for those who are new, a Kids Team member will guide you through the check-in process.

Every parent will receive a sticker with your child’s name in addition to a check-out tag with a unique four-digit code that corresponds to your child(ren)’s name tag. Please be sure to put your child(ren)’s name tag on them before they go into class!

After the service, you will need to present the check-out tag to the teacher in your child(ren)’s class to ensure that every child is returned to the proper family.

Our kids classes offer age-appropriate Bible-based lessons, with plenty of coloring/activities to help them meaningfully engage with God’s Word.

If you’d prefer to have your younger children remain with you during the full service, that’s totally fine too! We do have a changing table available in the younger classroom if you need it.

On the last Sunday of each month, we have a “Family Service” where children of all ages remain with their parents for the entire service. We try to make the sermon a little shorter and more kid-appropriate. Wiggles and giggles are welcome!

What about for older children and teens?

We encourage older children and teens to remain in the full service with their parents, and learn more about the Bible through listening to the sermon, and partaking in communion as appropriate.

Our youth group for grades 6-12 meets monthly.

Who can partake in communion?

If you have professed Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and have been initiated into the church body through the sign of Baptism, you are welcome to partake. If this is not yet true of you, we encourage you to remain seated.

Do I have to be a member to serve at Cornerstone Church?

Not at all! There are plenty of ways that you can serve and connect with us before you become a member. Take a look at our Serve Teams, and let us know where you feel gifted and called to serve!

How do I become a member?

We take membership seriously at Cornerstone Church, and that begins with our Membership Covenant. Please take a look, and reach out to one of our pastors with any questions you may have.

How else can I get plugged in?

In addition to Serve Teams, we also encourage you to attend one of our Community Groups. This is a weekly meeting of families, typically with 10-15 adults, for a time of fellowship, worship, prayer, and studying God’s Word together. It’s a great way to get to know each other on a deeper level and build friendships.

Our groups currently meet in Atlee, Beaverdam, Glen Allen, and Montpelier.
